This Big Thing { Whole thing with Chapt 4 and Ending }
This Big Thing

I am Hyperactive. What’s so wrong about that? Why am I born with it? Grandma says that I inherited it from Grandpa, who passed away few years ago, and Grandma could never be more depressed. Well, then Grandpa must have had a hard life then, just like me. Does being hyperactive equals to being ignored? Because that’s how I’m feeling right now, every second of my life, everyone ignores my opinions, well maybe until this big thing happened. Its about time because I had been ignored for the past 12 years.
Okay, so I admit I do weird things like nailing shoes on the wall. I mean, maybe they COULD come alive and walk horizontal, which IS a shoe’s dream, right? People ask me to think twice and I already did. Besides, I didn’t harm anyone at all, ok maybe accidents which don’t really count, but anyway they labeled me as DANGEROUS. I’m just thinking out of the box. Way out. Anyway sometimes I just could not control, its just a natural reaction, like when I feel annoyed, I roll into a ball to look like a rock so people will not disturb me, which is totally reasonable. It’s not like dancing around with bananas around my hips. But now, after 12 years, some things are under my control. Anyway so here’s ‘ this big thing ’ I had once mentioned.
Mr Forn
I rolled out of bed and dropped onto the blanket I lay beside it. I stood up and did it again. I love that feeling – as if I was dropping through clouds and clouds,
With nothing much to worry about except for what I was going to do when there were no more clouds. Suddenly the door whammed open. It was Dad. “ Leo, what on earth are you doing?” He demanded. I hate it when people ask me what I was doing even after ruining my fun. I curled up into a ball. Dad groaned and commanded “ I don’t care how you feel and I want you downstairs eating breakfast in ten minutes!” I knew he was steaming. He always was. I growled. “ Make it five!” He yelled as he slammed the door. The cutlery hanging down clanged against each other. I like that sound and knew I would be hearing it every morning. I dressed myself and waited until it was five minutes and one second before going down, to see if Dad was timing me. I stood at the bottom of the stairs, staring at Dad and Grandma, eating at the Dining table. Apparently, Dad was staring at the clock. Big trouble, I thought. Just as Dad opened his mouth, Grandma cut in “ Shut up and eat your food, son. If you starve to death, who’s gonna pay for my coffin? ” Ever since Grandpa died, the only words that came out of Grandma’s mouth were regarding death. Dad breathed out like a dragon. I knew that it was safe, and joined them for breakfast. After he had finished, Dad took his suitcase and went for work. He was finally gone. I don’t really know what his job is and that’s because he wouldn’t tell me. I slurped my breakfast down and skipped up to my room where I really belonged. I opened and looked out the window. I love the Sun. Its just like a really bright UFO coming someday to abduct you, which was why now I’m creating my own alien language to make it easier to communicate.
A few “ Eh - Yo” irritating alarm spoilt my thought. Straight away I recognized that it was a police siren. I’m a good friend with Sarge because of my knowledge and I often visit him with Haley and there are a dozen kinds of these alarms there, which makes me kind of erm, ball. My head swung to that direction. I’m very sensitive to sounds, which is why my room is sound proof, so that nobody disturbs me while I sleep, and when I yell, there would be echoes. Pretty cool. Anyway, the noise came from our new neighbour ‘s, who had moved in several weeks ago, Mr Forn, compartment. I could tell that he was yelling his head off because his mouth was as big as my knee. I ran down.
“ Grandma, can I go check out what’s happening at Forn’s ? ”
“ Yeah, yeah, scram. Just make sure that if he goes to jail, make sure he reserves a place for your dad, or you, ” she croaked and blew a puff on her cigarette.
“ Dad’s going to jail? ”
“ Not yet, but someday, ” she commented. “ Now get out of here and go burn off some of your hyper energy. ” She whacked me with her stick. Grandma can be harsh, very harsh, but she’s good people. I dodged professional and scooted out of the house.
“ Calm down sir, and describe to us the crime as detailed as you can. ” One of the police instructed, biting his pen tip.
“ What’s going on? ” I asked curiously.
“ Oh you again. It’s the fifth time this week you came to visit me. What do you want? ” Mr Forn yelled as his bloodshot eyes bulged. The policemen stared at him. Mr Forn sighed.“ Look, I don’t have time now. Now run along. ” He swatted his hands.
“ Mr Forn here had his door locked picked but all whoever who did it was to kill his dog and place the Mayor’s Jewelry on his table. ” The police officer explained, reading his findings.
“ The mayor’s … ? Never mind. Can I join the investigation too? ” I asked eagerly, so maybe next time I can become a detective, or maybe some kind of police chief. Either one is good.
“ What? How can you? You are under medi… ”
“ I suppose he can, not many youngsters now a days have this learning attitude. Besides, there’s no harm letting him. ” Sarge interrupted Mr Forn’s explanation and smiled at me. I gave him my cutest beam, it always works. Maybe not always but you get the point.
We went in, and Mr Forn started on his story.
“ As an early bird, I rose at 8 a.m. and starting eating my breakfast. Fred was as usual as he was – slopping at his basket. After breakfast, I realised that it was particularly warm this morning, and so I went up to take a bath. Little did I know, ” He shook his head. “ When … when I came out, he’s dead! ” I glared at the lifeless body of the ferocious bulldog which bite was worst then its bark, in a puddle of blood. There was a knife beside it. The sight was kind of pleasing.
“And look at this! The mayor’s jewelry was right on my coffee table! Right there! I don’t know but anyone who did this obviously wanted to frame me. ” Mr Forn exclaimed.
Sarge nodded as he scribbled over his notepad. “ Did you see any suspicious character when you went out to take your newspaper? And … won’t your dog bark while its getting stabbed? Do you have any arguments with anyone recently? ” Sarge questioned him.
“ Well, I did kind of see some shadows lurking behind the bush. And my bathroom is sound proof, so I couldn’t hear a thing! Well, I had kind of a fight with my brother recently, about my father’s inheritance, on the phone although. But now he suddenly graciously let me have the whole share! ” Mr Forn blabbered on.
“ This is pretty easy, all the clues leads to your brother, which makes him the culprit. First, he wanted to frame you on stealing the mayor’s jewelry so he suddenly let you have the inheritance as he knew that you would go to jail and probably get hanged, so he need not argued for it. ” Sarge deducted the reason as he chuckled.
“ I can’t believe my brother would do this! Well, I had never seen him since I was 5 until now, and he’s probably grown all greedy. ” Mr Forn sighed in disbelief. He looked fake.
Sarge wore on some gloves and shoved the jewellary into a small plastic bag, and did it with the knife too. “ Did you touch them? We will be checking them for fingerprints.” Mr Forn shook his head. “ Good. Now, just wait for our news. ” Sarge patted him on the shoulder as they headed back to the police station. I had my doubts. I asked if I could use his bathroom.
“ But your darn house is only 5 miles away! ” He reasoned. “ Urgent… ” I pretended and he finally, but reluctantly, gave in. I shot up the stairs and slammed the toilet door. “ You are going to pay for that if I find a crack on that thing! ” I heard him hollered but it didn’t really bothered me.
I did my business and decided to test out this place. “ Hello? ” ‘ Hello? ’ There was an echo ringing. Mr Forn wasn’t lying, I thought. Then, I saw a brioche in the mirror cabinet. ‘ To Australia: Tasmania ’ A brioche in the toilet? Suspicious. Something was wrong.
I sped home.
The Glove
“ He’s lying. ” I deduced from my memory. In case you don’t know, it’s photographic. “ Anyway I got some evidence but I don’t think it’s sufficient. ”
“ So, I came here just to hear this? ” Haley asked impatiently. “ It’s important, its regarding Kasie’s death. ” I reasoned. Haley gasped. She grabbed my shirt.
“ Kasie who? ” She hissed. Then, she got a worried look. “ Kasie C-L-A-S-S. ” I spelt it out to her so I had more time to live in case she was intending to kill me. She let go of my shirt. I almost fell. “ That’s not true. You blinked. ” She shook her head. “ I had to blink, to clear the dust in my eyes. ” I flickered my eyelids in her face. “ You are Haley Aces, am I lying now? ”
I pulled out a newspaper from Haley’s bike basket. She had a part-time job delivering them. I waved the front page in front of her. She snatched it. “ Mayor’s Daughter Murdered. Pg 14. ” I noted her. She vigorously push the pages, and her eyes scanned through the article. She covered her face as she started weeping. I don’t get why they cover their faces when they cry when everyone know what’s happening. Besides, our neighbourhood is practically isolated. She’s nuts. I patted her on the back, that’s how she handles me when I rolled into a ball. She wailed. I should have known. Kasie was Haley’
s best friend and they had been for 6 years. “ She would know it sooner or later anyway. ” I consoled myself.
She hugged me and continued to weep. Seriously, she’s staining my shirt. I looked at my watch; it was still quite early. I couldn’t just push her away so I just stayed still. After about half an hour later, my shirt completely drenched, Haley stopped crying and decided to bring the murderer to justice. And so we went to our nearby burger restaurant – BURGER BITES.
I pulled out the lettuce and sliced the bread into pieces. Then, I wrapped the sliced bun with the lettuce and gobbled it down. Normally, Haley would follow me although she’s not hyper, just a bit weird, but today she just sat there staring at her burger like a zombie. Then, I chomped down the meat and slurped down my coke. She was still in the same position. I burped in her face. She grabbed me by the shirt again and let me go. She sighed. Heavily. “ I don’t know, but… but I had been with Kasie for 6 years. 6 years! I don’t know how to cope with this sudden catastrophe, Leo, I don’t. ” She burst out. Tears trickled down her cheeks. I so do not want the 30 minutes thing again. I pulled her out of the chair, ran up the hill and down. Haley pushed my hands off hers. “ What on earth are you think you are doing? ” She panted heavily.
“ Well, at least you’re not crying now. ” I let out a thin whistle of air. “ Now, we need to focus on finding the murderer, Kasie would rather we do that. ” I looked up in the sky, sending an alien signal that says ‘ Right? ’ Haley smiled faintly.
“ Let’s go. ” She demanded and dragged me to the Mayor’s Mansion.
“ Can we go and take a look at Kasie’ s room? ” I asked and pretended to be remorseful.
“ Sure. ” Mrs Class managed to choke up. I realised that the Mayor was not in the living room with her, unlike last time when they both used to keep a lookout for Kasie. Probably sorting out financial problems, I deduced from what I read from the newspaper a few days ago – ‘ Sales Going Down Tremendously After A Drought That Hit UK’
I took a look at the room. It was my first time here as it isn’t appropriate for me to hang out with them, so I’m pretty sure this was my last time here. The room was huge, with a unique design, and probably cost a bomb. Haley was in a daze.
“ I remembered the time when we first met, me and Kasie became instant friends but the mayor wouldn’t let her stay over at mine, so I had to at hers. This place – I had been seeing for 6 years, I know every nook and cranny here. I can even walk comfortably blindfolded. We really had a lot of fun. ” Haley recounted depressingly as she strolled the room. I took out a notebook, in case I may forget anyway, so as Kasie’s best friend, Haley might give me some clues.
“ I remembered the time when we kept best friend diaries and stuffs, we even had our very own memories safe box. It only opens if it scans either Kasie’s or mine thumbprint. Pretty high tech huh? ” She chuckled as she continued. “ So … do you have any other clues? ” I asked, not wanting to miss out any special points.
Haley thought for awhile. Her eyes widened. “ Yeah! I remembered when I was walking home from Kasie’s late at night, I saw a person in black climbing near the window. At first I thought its just a regular thief, and would be caught by security later on, I really didn’t expect this. It’s all my fault! ” she realised and started feeling guilty. There’s really something wrong with that woman. “ Any description of the person in black? ” I interviewed Haley. “ Well, I am quite sure he had lost one glove. It was white so it was pretty obvious. ” she reported. That was an important clue. I can’t believe she only remembered it now! Horrible.
It was getting pretty late, so we headed home after that. It was a busy day, but I still cracked my brains when I went home. I just had to solve this. I don’t know why though. I lay like a starfish on my comforter. It always helped me think better.
Okay, the first hope was to find the missing glove of the culprit which I don’t expect to - as being a scheming murderer { Let’s just name this guy SM}, SM would not leave a glove in the room for us to find , to check for fingerprints and identify him. And even if the security are coming, taking an extra gloves would only take a few seconds, which does not lets SM get caught. So the only reason SM did not take the gloves because he couldn’t as Kasie had hid it before she passed away. But if we find the gloves easily, it might not be SM’s as SM wanted to frame someone. Moreover, SM could had deliberately let Haley spot SM and be a witness about the missing glove so as to, like I had said, frame someone else.
The point is, we need to find the gloves first and figure the rest out later.
The door slammed open. It was grandma. Does anyone in this family respect privacy? “ Watcha thinkin’, about how I die? ” She poked me with her walking stick. I knew she was joking.
“ No. I was thinking about Kasie’s death. ”
“ You mean the gal you always find? I guess the good die young and I’m yearning to be good. ”
“ No. That’s Haley, and you don’t expect her to be dead for a 50 more years. She’s healthier than rabbits. Kasie’s her best friend. ”
“ Oh, you mean the Mayor’s daughter, Kasie? Sad for the Mayor – first, he ran into financial problems and now, his daughters dead. But I bet your dad wouldn’t mind at all if he was the Mayor. So until you get that girl to be your permanent friend, I’m watching you. ” She coughed ferociously, then walked out of my bedroom. She always wanted Haley to become my ‘ permanent friend and her explanation was “ If I had a few friends in life, I would have done things right, like bringing your dad up. Now look at him – he’s NOT right. ”
I did what I liked to do this morning again – flopping onto the blanket from the bed but this time, Dad didn’t came in, slamming the door again. It was pretty weird, because he was always super cranky in the morning, thanks to Mr Forn’s beast which always wakes him up before the alarm rang and not only that, he had work later on in the afternoon which makes him feel really frustrated because of his bossy boss. I went downstairs, he was actually whistling. Grandma and me were pretty freaked out, and did not say anything until he was off to work.
“ Wow. Did he strike lottery? ”
“ I don’t think so. Maybe it’s because Mr Forn’s dog died. ” I suggested, recalling yesterday’s happening.
“ So, must someone or something must die before he’s glad? Imagine him after my death! ”
“ Stop it grandma. You’re not going to die. So stop fooling me. ”
Grandma did a shrug and hobbled to her bedroom. Me too. Just then, the phone shrilled. I whipped it up. “ Hello. Leo Crimson here. ” Like a person at the counter. It was Haley and she wanted me to carry on the investigation. I hesitated. Of course I wanted to, but… “ I swear I won’t cry. ” That convinced me.
We went to the mansion again, we really needed to find the glove. Sarge was there too. I told Sarge about the glove. He instructed his team to be on a lookout for it. Haley dreamily went to her and Kasie’s secret safe. She unlocked the safe and her eyes opened as wide as my mouth. “ The glove… it’s here! ” She yelled. Sarge went to put it in a plastic bag. He kind of looked casual, like he had expected this to happen. “ I’ll check it for fingerprints and then we can determine who the murderer is. Okay team, let’s wrap this up. ” He decided. I looked at Sarge. He really looked like the Mayor when I came to think of it. They might be clones actually. “ Let’s go, Leo. ” Haley shook me. I snapped out of it and nodded. I have a feeling that this case wasn’t as easy to solve as it seems.
Who?
“ So who do you think was the murderer? ” Haley asked, curious of my mind as we walked home from the Mayor’s Mansion.
“ There are main three suspects, ” I announced professionally, analysing my scribbles on my notepad.
“ Wait, let me guess – Mr Forn and … your dad? ”
I nodded. “ Who’s the last one? ”
“ Sarge. ” I answered softly, uncertain if I had maligned the wrong person. Haley went mad.
“ Sarge? SARGE? How could you! I guarantee you that it will NEVER be Sarge. Which part of your brain made you think that way? You need immediate brain operation! ” she yelled as she whacked my head with a bundle of newspaper she was suppose to deliver.
“ Hey! I’m perfectly fine okay, it’s just that Sarge look quite different these days, like the mole on his chin, its gone! Moles don’t come and go as they want to right? And, and he looked ‘ fake’ when he saw the glove, like he was expecting for it to be found as he knew he had left it in the room because he was the murderer. ” I reasoned defensively. Haley thought about it. “ Maybe you’re right. ” she agreed reluctantly.
“ What about your dad, aren’t you afraid he would go to jail or something? ” She asked with concern.
“ It’s about time he do. But don’t tell him I said that, he’ll skin me alive. ” I whispered cautiously. “ But he’s the least suspicious – he won’t kill Kasie and accuse Mr Forn just because he hates his dog. ” I assured her, or rather, me.
“ What about Mr Forn? ” Haley thought aloud.
“ He’s the most suspected to be the murderer. He gave all the details that literally points to his brother. But I still don’t really think it’s him. Why don’t we ask who his brother is, to make sure? ”
“ I don’t really think he would tell us. I mean, knowing how much he hates you. ” She suggested nervously.
The next thing I knew, we were knocking on Mr Forn’ s door. I got this method that works on her every time called ‘bribery’.
“ I should have known, you little rat with brains. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN I still owed you $2. ” She spat as my knuckles hit the wood.
“ Oh, you should have. Now let’s just do this and we can get going. ” I retorted. No one answered the door for about a minute.
“ Okay, what luck! Mr Forn isn’t at home, so lets move on. ” She urged. I knew she was afraid of Mr Forn. But at the most we just get chased out with a broom. I was prepared.
Then, the door burst open. Mr Forn was standing there. “ What. Do. You. Want?!? ” He asked sternly through gritted teeth. Haley gulped. But I was as cool as a frozen chicken in North Pole. “ Can we know who your brother is? ” I asked politely, in case I trigger his anger nerve although I know he was naturally annoyed and raged. He slammed the door and our face,
Haley tugged on my shirtsleeve.
“ Let’s go, that guy’s mentally disabled. ” She remarked.
“ But I just had to have the answers. They’ re important for this investigation, If not Kasie’s case will not be brought to justice. ” I insisted and starting banging on the door.
“ Stop it! You’re disturbing the whole neighbourhood!” Haley whisper- scolded. I felt guilty, but I didn’t care and continued thumping.
Haley grabbed hold of my collar. “ Leo Crimson. Stop. It. NOW. ” There was a note finality in her voice. I paused. The door smacked open again. “ My brother is Patrick Forn. I don’t know where or what his name is now, though. Now get the heck out of here! ” Mr Forn screeched hysterically as he whipped the door close. His actions were so swift that Haley was still holding my collar. Then she let go.
“ Sorry, Haley. ” I murmured as we strolled to the ICA. She glared at me. “ You’re simply stubborn. ”
“ I know, I know. ” I mumbled as she started lecturing me about my stubbornness. She had done this so many times that I can recite it backwards.
“ If you were not stubborn, you would not be labeled as an hyperactive, and would not have so much trouble. Can’t you not be so persevering sometimes? ” She would say. But I can’t help it, maybe that’s a symptom of being hyperactive. I gave her the ‘ I’m so guilty so stop nagging already’ look. She sighed and shook her head. “ Lets go. ” she snatched my hand and ran as a rival of an Olympian runner to the counter of the ICA. My leg was barely touching the ground, flickering like a flag attached to a dashing pole.
We were lucky, as when we reached the booth, there were hardly any people there, so it didn’t take long to get assistance.
“ We want the list of – ” Haley started demanding. I knew she was too straightforward.
“ Erm, Our mother had just passed away. She told us our uncle’s name before she died and asked us to look for him. Since that was his name years ago, can we check that if he had changed it? ” I cut in and cooked up a story.
The counter people nodded and smile. “ May I know what’s your uncle’s name? ” she asked politely.
“ Patrick Forn. ” Haley snapped.
I nudged her. Her attitude might really expose our identities, really. She got the message and forced a smile.
The counter person keyed in the name and clicked the mouse a few times. “ Oh my god. Your uncle’s the mayor! ” She gasped.
“ You’re kidding, right? ” Haley remarked sternly.
“ She meant that … this is a news too good to be true! We better get going, thanks for the trouble. ” I tried to cover Haley’s mistake and dragged her out of the place.
“ I can’t believe it! Mr Class is Mr Forn’s brother? That’s impossible! ” Haley started blabbering. “ Why would Mr Class frame Mr Forn for stealing the jewelry when he was already rich enough to afford three of my apartments? It just doesn’t make sense! ”
“ Come on, Haley. Maybe its just a coincidence – a mere coincidence that Mr Class happened to be Mr Forn’s brother. Let’s go find Sarge and ask him about the fingerprints on the gloves. ” I assured her although I wasn’t so sure about it myself.
We were about to go into the mansion to find Sarge when I found myself pulling Haley to the back of a tree.
“ Don’t tell anything about Mr Forn’s brother and the
Mayor to Sarge. ” I advised.
“ Why? ” She looked startled.
“ I told you – Sarge isn’t so trustworthy now. ” I whisper- remindered her. “ Just don’t. ” I commanded before she could reason me.
We got our permission and went into the room again. Sarge and his team were also there.
“ So … are there any fingerprints on the glove and the jewelry at Mr Forn’s house? ” I asked curiously.
“ Nope, ” Sarge bit his lip. “ None at all – that murderer’s pretty smart. ”
“ If he would dared to kill Kasie, he ought to be smart. Or else his days are numbered. ” Haley agreed, with a grudge against the murderer, whoever it was.
“ So … found out any clues? ” I asked again, making sure that I didn’t miss out any single detail to help me solve this case. Sarge shook his head. I expected that, because like I had said before, the murderer should be a genius. Sarge left not long after, and so we decided to search the room alone.
“ Maybe there are some clues in the … the diaries you and Kasie share? ” Reading about what Haley had said on our previous visit here that I had jotted down in my notebook.
“ Good point. ” She commented and dug out the diary. It was blue and purple with stickers all over it. It had a lock. Then, Haley took out a key from her wallet and unlocked the diary. She flipped through the pages.
“ It seems that Kasie wrote one last entry probably after I left her house and before she was, ” she swallowed a lump. “ you know. ”
“ Can I… read it? ” I asked, although I expect her to say ‘ no’. She nodded.
I took the dairy and here’s what’s written in it:
Dear Haley,
Today, I had a lot of fun with you. Its really nice to have you as my best friend. I really cherished the times we have together. Remember the time when we went fishing and you got pulled into the river because your line got stuck under a rock? That was hilarious because I started laughing at you and you pulled me into the river too. Yeah.. just want you to know that. Also, you should find some other friends, me and Leo is not enough. Erm, that is all.
Lots of love,
Kasie
Immediately, I knew who was the murderer. I don’t know if I should tell Haley, because it was obvious that she would freak out and start to go mad.
“ It was totally an obvious ‘good bye and thank you’ letter. ” I commented. She took the book.
“ Don’t read it, ” I slammed the book close in her face. “ You will cry. ” I reasoned. Haley took a deep breath and sighed. “ I… I think I know who killed Kasie. ” I blurted out.
Just then, I heard something moved at the doorway. I ran outside the room, only to see the back of the person probably eavesdropping on us turning at a bend. I didn’t bother to chase whoever it was because now that I know who’s the murderer, I’ve got a more vital job to do – find more evidence.
“ What happened? And who’s the murderer? ” Haley urged to know the answers. Should I tell her? Maybe next time.
“ Nothing, just a rat. Then again, I was just suspicious of someone, that’s all. ” I lied, twice in a row.
Usually, Haley would suffocate or hold me down to get the answers. But this time, she probably read the diary when I was away so she got all teary and didn’t bother to threaten me. I knew what was going to happen so I excused myself to go home, to think about this case again. Haley agreed and I escaped home the moment I could.
I lay on my bed the way I liked again and thought about it:
SM is related to Kasie because she knew that SM was going to kill her. The first hint was Kasie pointing her finger at the balcony when she died. If she had the time to point, she would have the time to struggle and maybe defend herself against SM. So she knew that if she died, it would be of good to SM so she didn’t bother to struggle, but she still want this murder case to be brought to justice. Anyway I think she might be pointing to the secret safe before she died and SM realised that but he can’t open the safe so he moved her hand so it made it point to the balcony. The second hint was the goodbye note. Why did Kasie write a goodbye note before her death? Because she knew that she was going to die! So it was pretty obvious who the murderer now was. There are plenty of other evidence too. You see, -
“ Thinking again? ” Grandma barged into my room again and sat on my bed. “ I’m going to die today and I know it, ” she announced, taking a puff of her cigarette. I didn’t say anything. What can you say to a person who think she’s going to die today?
“ So, why are you home so early? Shouldn’t you be cracking the case for that girl? ” she laughed out loud. I really don’t get grandmas.
“ She was going to cry so I escaped. ” I replied proudly, thinking that I was quick at mind, if not I would had been with Haley for another crying session.
“ What! You left her alone at her point of depression? What kind of friend are you? ” Grandma nagged. I was starting to feel guilty.
“ If you don’t bring home that lady today, don’t you DARE step in this house! ” She hollered at the top of her lungs, launching whacks of her stick at me. “ MOVE IT, KID! ” She warned with her bulging eyes and chased me out of the house.
I looked at my watch. It was one hour to noon. It was still very early, so I decided to find some evidence before I report to the police station or rather, Haley. So first, I need to find Sarge.
“ I left my notebook in there. Can I go retrieve it? ” I asked the security politely. He nodded and let me in.
That was easy.
This time, fortunately, Mrs and Mr Class weren’t at the living room, shooting questions. So, I explored the mansion, instead of heading directly to Kasie’s bedroom, dodging all the maids and servants. I was thinking which place would a kidnapped person be hidden. Well, hopefully kidnapped and not killed.
Janitors’ room? Guests’ room? No. Somewhere where the maids and servants are not allowed in. I thought of movie shows. … The Private Library! Yes! They usually have secret passageway, like a head of a demon statue or something. But where is the library?
Suddenly, Mrs Class walked out of a room and headed to the opposite of where I was. That was close. The private library obviously must be connected to the master bedroom. And the master bedroom’s door was slightly opened. What else could I do? After peeping through the slid to ensure that Mr Class or any maids were not there, I sneaked in. IT WAS HUMONGOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Triple Kasie’s room! It really made the Toys ‘R’ us stall looked minute. There was also a cabinet filled with antiques. Make it three cabinets. Then, there were some muffled voices. I knew I had made the right move. I headed the direction where the sound came from. I ended up in a private library. I knew it! Television was not so useless after all.
There was a fireplace at a corner, the fire flickering ever so desperately, accompanied by a few candles depressingly showing off their light. I looked up. Thousand of books were stacked in bookcases about 600 miles up. A fireplace in a library was quite an odd thing – once a book is on fire, there will be yet another catastrophe.
There must be some secret passage. I knocked on the dusty wall near the fireplace. There was a hollow sound. Fake wall. I knocked harder. The muffled voice inside became louder. Whoever inside had heard me.
I looked around for clues to revealing this ever so secret place. The fireplace was surrounded by polished willow wood. Then, on top of it were two statues of infant angels holding harps. Suspicious. I pushed all the parts of the statues. Nothing. I sighed. Was I supposed to break through the wall? I caught a glimpse of some crumpled paper on the floor. I took some and flicked it into the flames. There was a creaking sound. The wall tilted a bit. My eyes widened. I knew what was happening.
I grabbed any nearby books and starting ripping off pages and flinging them into the flames. As it engulfs the crinkled paper hungrily, I watched in awe as the wall around fireplace with it turned 45 degrees. As soon I was able to slit in to the room behind the library, I shot through it. The muffled voices were raging now. But the secret room was in total darkness, except for the dim light from the candles in the private library.
“ Hello? Anyone here? ” I asked as I feel around the room for a light switch. There was a little creaking sound of wood and then, the lights went on, but I was not the one who switched it on. All was clear to see.
“ Hello, Leo. I was expecting you. ” There was an snickering voice from behind.
The Truth
I spun around. Just who I guessed it was – Sarge. “ I knew it!” I pointed at him and spat with vengeance.
I turned to look at the kidnapped person. Sarge and Haley. Why was she kidnapped too?
“ But why kill your daughter? ” I yelled.
“ I didn’t have a choice. The business’ going down and I have to get the jewelry. ”
“ Then get your darn holy jewels! Why murder Kasie!? ” I found myself hollering.
“ The jewelry’s in her room. I thought I could sneak them out but she knew me too well, and tried to call for the guards. I had to silence her. ” He sighed depressingly, eyes filled with regret.
“ And you just killed Kasie like that? That’s ridiculous! ” Haley yelled after she managed to cough up the rag in her mouth.
“ So you pretended to be Sarge, making sure that the case would be unsolved – like lying that there were no thumbprints on the gloves. ” I deduced.
“ Right. Clever boy. ” He nodded.
Suddenly I realised we were having a conversation.
“ So why kidnapped Haley? Are you going to silence us too?! ” I hollered abruptly at him.
“ Nope. I’m just luring your father. ” He assured me with a smile. How can this really kind and protective of his daughter be a murderer – of his own daughter? Sometimes I wonder if this was really reality.
“ Why would you want my father? Wait, is he your evil companion? ” I asked in disbelief. I mean, you never know what you never know.
He gave a deep laugh. “ No, no. He’s the Police Chief. I’m just going to ask him for a plane to escape to other countries. ” He winked at me. Then, he took a rope, tied me up, applied some of Mrs Class’ rouge and used a scissors to cut pieces of cloth from my dressing to make it looked as if I had been tortured cruelly. I didn’t struggle at all. I was not sure of his motive but it seems that it won’t do any harm to me at all.
“ What on earth are you doing to Leo? Leo, smack that treacherous weirdo! ” Haley was screaming her head off.
“ Oh just be quiet. ” The Mayor took another rag and jammed it into her mouth. Everything looked like it was a scene in a movie. Then, Mr Class whipped out his phone and dialed my father. I was wondering if my Dad would even care. They had a conversation and then he passed the phone to me.
“ Hi dad. ” I chirped into the mouth hole. “ WHAT TROUBLE DID YOU GET INTO THIS TIME? ” I heard him hollered. Before I can reply, Mr Class took the phone away and started talking to dad.
Haley was kicking and struggling. Sometimes I think she was the hyperactive one. After 15 solid minutes, dad came marching in, with a group of policemen.
“ What on earth is this all about? ” He yelled the moment he saw us.
“ Where’s the plane I asked for? ” Mr Class asked sternly. His hand held a pocketknife and he was squatting beside me. Dad hesitated.
“ Quick. Or I’ll kill him. ” Mr Class held his knife near my throat. Haley struggled more. “ Fine. And her too. ” He added reluctantly. Sometimes I never understand Haley. Dad took a step back.
“ The plane’s outside. ” He admitted and pushed the curtain of a nearby window apart. It revealed a jet plane. “ Can I have those two back now? ” Dad urged. Sarge gagged. “ And Sarge. ” he added promptly. Those people are hopeless.
“ Not yet. First, I give you Sarge, then, at the plane before I set off – Haley. I will let Leo jump before at the countryside. ” Mr Class planned professionally.
“ JUMP? ” Dad hollered in disbelief. “ With an parachute. ” Mr Class added loudly. Dad bit his lip. It wasn’t easy to trust a murderer but that’s the only way.
“ Deal. ” He agreed hesitantly.
Mr Class pushed Sarge to dad like playing chips on the table. Dad pushed Sarge to his fellows, not wanting to get distracted.
Then, Mr Class, Haley, and me went to the fields where the jet plane was first. Then, dad and his team were allowed to come. I didn’t say a word. I knew that somehow, just somehow, something unexpected to happen. Besides, what’s there to say?
Haley was released and I was the only one held captive. We went inside the plane. Mr Class untied the rope. It made a red mark on my wrists.
“ Wear your parachute quickly. Later, when I count down at 1, jump. ” He instructed.
“ Are you going to crash this plane? ” I asked although I knew the answer.
“ No. Why would you thi – ” He chuckled.
“ Why? ” I cut in.
He did a depressing sigh. “ I knew the moment Kasie died that I will live in regret all my life. So now I’m doing the last good deed to at least replenish part of my sin although I would never be able to cover up for that mistake. You are smart. ”
“ But how is crashing the plane a good deed? ”
“ Let’s just hope your father learns something about how he feels when his son is at the verge of death. ”
“ How did you – ”
“ The Mayor know anything. ” He forced a faint smile.
“ You were a great mayor. Just to let you know. And so what’s the brioche in Mr Forn’s toilet about? ” I asked as Mr Class started up the plane.
“ There was a brioche in his toilet? Weird fellow. Probably that’s why he got lost and could not be found for the past 36 years. ” He shook his head.
“ Then.. why of all people, frame Mr Forn? And killed his dog although that WAS a good deed. ”
“ Oh. Yeah. I can hear its bark from 5 miles away. And… ”
“ You knew! ” I cut in, again. “ You knew that it would make Mr Forn an obvious suspect but then again the case wouldn’t be so easy and you knew I would be involved and eventually crack this case. You planned everything and now it’s happening your way! But if you knew, why kill Kasie, when you know the consequences? ” I rattled.
“ Because, after calculating everything, I realised that our whole town will die in a bomb explosion. Don’t ask me why. So I sacrifice myself and Kasie to prevent this disaster. I was prepared but Kasie was not. That’s why I need to face this, Leo. Get ready. 3.. ”
“ WHAT!?! WAIT.. WAIT…! ” I yelled, horrified, although I already wore a parachute as I stood near the door of the plane.
“ 2… ” He counted down. I was really in a state of panic. “ .. 1, Now! ” I took a last look at his face before I jumped. I tried to pull the trigger. HOLY GOD it was stuck! My heart jumped out of my mouth as I surged downwards in mid air, yet I knew I was not going to leave earth that easily. Suddenly, I thought about Haley.
My eyelids flickered as I gain conscious of my surroundings. I sat up on the bed. I was in a hospital.
Haley and Dad rushed over. “ You’ re alright! ”
She squealed and hugged me. Dad’s face revealed a little smile. Can he ever do that?
“ What.. happened after I jumped? ” I asked, wanting to know what was going on.
“ You smacked into the sea, and you got into coma. ”
Haley blurted out. Dad’s face immediately changed.
“ Why didn’t you pull the darn trigger? You almost died if it hasn’t for that sea! ” Dad lectured fiercely.
“ It was stuck! ” I reasoned. Dad shook his head and went out of the room. Some things never change.
“ How.. how long have I been in coma? ” I asked Haley after the grouchy guy left.
“ Only 3 days. Docter said you were lucky. ” she explained.
“ What.. happened to Mr Class? ”
“ Him? He died on the spot of course, ” She spat. “ He deserves that anyway. ”
“ You don’t understand Haley, ” I blurted out. “ He plotted this – Kasie’s death, the glove, me finding out the truth, the plane crash, me living on – everything! Because he calculated that if this don’t happen, the whole town will perish to a bomb! ”
“ How can you tell? ” She retorted. “ Maybe he was … ”
Suddenly, I realised that the urge that I had to solve this whole case was because of Haley. To fight justice for her best friend. And when I’m bored she’s always there to try out wacky new stuffs. She don’t mind the fact that I’m not normal…
20 Years Later...
Am I a Mayor? Nope. Am I a Police Chief? Nope.
I’m BOTH.
After ‘ this big thing ’ that happened 20 years ago, Haley and I had been solving cases with dad ever since. Although dad is still cranky and grouchy, I think that incident really got him thinking. Everyday we had new cases and I became an investigator 10 years ago. But I did learn how to fight, and so all the hyper energy in me had made me a police too. So I was both. I solved a lot of cases fair and squarely. About 2 years ago, dad decided it was time to retire and let me take over. And so he went to Australia, Tasmania for a month for a vacation.
I supposed the people in town liked me for my fair judging and the next thing I knew, - I was a Mayor. It was really hard, handling not only cases but also business economy and everything else. I guessed Mr Class influenced me with some of his fortune- telling skills as I could really guess a bit of the future.
Asking about Haley? She married a very awesome, handsome, cool, cute guy named Leo Crimson. Yeah, that’s me. We had a son and a daughter, Neo and Valerie and they never stop quarrelling. It was cool, recounting all the old times to them before they sleep every night, bringing the past back to life although they leave A LOT of comments.
I guess heaven really hates grandma because she’s still alive, and she even found a companion. It was nice – finally seeing her get over with granddad, not that I hate him, but to see her cheerful face again, although she’s still very harsh, but my ‘ new granddad ’ was kind and nice. I guess the unlike poles attract. I wonder if dad would be like that too.
Mr Forn realised that how dull his world was 20 years ago after that incident and became a totally changed person – kind, helpful, naturally positive, which was kind of horrifying come to think of it. But anyway he got married to Mrs Class who finally forgot about Mr Class. They didn’t have any kids, they just focus on living peacefully together. Now and then he would drop by and thank me for disturbing him in the past. I guess we’re even.
Sarge retired after that incident, said that he should try out in another not-so-dangerous job. He’s now in California, being quite a famous technician. Who knew he had such talents afterall?
But in short, we all lived on happily. Very happily for the rest of our lives.
Thank You for Reading.
May You Live A Happy Life Too.

This Big Thing Chapter 3
I lay on my bed the way I liked again and thought about it :
WOOOO~~~ Soooo exciting. MUAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAH. The power of suspense. Remember what curiosity did to the cat? Anyway the new notebook { Actually a mini laptop but he still insists it as a notebook } my father got today comes with this headphone so now I feel ultra shioking listening to all the songs I like. That's why I got the MP3 thingy posted on my blog. Everything comes with a motive. Muaha. And the notebook also comes with some downloaded demo games that only got 60 minutes trial but still playable then just now I was playing happily with my bro the CHICKEN INVADORS 2 and then the book worm one was pretty boring but I came up with a SUPER LONG word that is considered long in that game -cultivated So I killed the enemy with a 1 hit K.O. Pretty lame but I'm desperate. Stay tune and be alive till then - don't be like the cat!
